As you sketch you may get it dead right the very first time, or it may look nothing like what you are trying to do. It does not matter. All that matters is that you do it.
Take a camera with you wherever you go. Look for beautiful compositions of ordinary things you see, photograph them, and make a study of them.
Buy a sketch pad and draw one real thing every week. Just as anyone who is great at anything, you need to do it to get better. Each and every mark you make on the paper will be helping you to learn so no time that is spent drawing what you see is ever wasted, it all feeds into your understanding.
