IBS The painful and troubling symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) can be alleviated through the use of hypnosis and cognitive and behavioural methods. As with all treatments treating IBS involves getting a full history of clients and their symptoms and suspected causes. Hypnosis can then be used in conjunction with cogntive methods to support people as they learn to try to let go of unnecessary worries and concerns. Hypnosis allows a focus on the body and learning to feel when and where excess tension is held. The digestive tract is extremely sensitive to upset hence all the idioms which have sprung up in everyday language such as gut reaction or feeling things in my guts. Once you begin to become aware of triggers of IBS in your life you can then begin to work on what you are going to do about them, dealing with IBS differently and often experiencing a reduction in discomfort as your sense of self confidence increases. |
